Sketch your notes for real learning

Summary

This is a snippet from a 2018 presentation, roughly based on Mike Rohde’s work. Note taking in a linear fashion assumes the presenter will communicate in that structure throughout the event. Sketching your notes is broadly relatable and is highly adaptable for adult learners. Participants juggle stimuli while trying to making sense of the information presented – multi-tasking and learning don’t mix! Professional development course slide decks are conventionally known to have either text-heavy slides or minimalistic slides with a lot of scripted and improvised speech; superfluous designs like symbols and images are often used to break the flow. Learners need a tactical approach to own their learning process.
